On a recent trip down to Phillip Island I decided to call into Surf Beach to look for the Hooded Plovers, it didn’t take long to locate this Hoody along the beach on a late arvo high tide. It is amazing how the endangered Hooded Plover manages to survive considering the threats from human activity and dogs on the beach, but somehow they manage to survive with a healthy population recorded on Phillip Island.

The Hooded Plover or Hooded Dotterel (Thinornis rubricollis) is a species of bird in the family Charadriidae. It is endemic to southern Australia and Tasmania where it inhabits ocean beaches and subcoastal lagoons. There are two recognized subspecies, both of which are classified as endangered.
